Elizabeth Lewis

Elizabeth Lewis is a 2020 graduate of Fine Arts Honours at UNSW Art and Design. With a background in ceramics, painting, and print, textural anomalies form the basis of her work across these mediums. She is particularly interested in how collage can inform other practices materially, explored through the strong silhouettes of ceramic forms.

In Elizabeth’s Still Life with Movement series, the concept of a still life is extended conceptually with more weight given to the process behind the Still Life. Imperfect ceramics from previous structural experiments, and watercolour concept work have lent themselves to developing these prints as expressive representations of ceramics that float mid air or become see- through. Pots with handles so extensively decorative loose their functionality, with flowers trapped inside them as a caricature of the value in decadence presented in classical scenes. Creating their own less-than-manicured scenes of process, these works attempt to re-animate the Still Life.
